Search Engine  crawlers finding your site

The first thing to do in launching a web site is making sure that it is being included in the search engine crawlers.  I have no idea what the formula is for the search engines to aquire new web sites to crawl, possibly the whois database, however we don't have time to waste on waiting them to find us.  They give us a way to tell them about ourselfs.

Once the web site is presentable, go to google, yahoo and msn, and get your sites crawled.

Here is the "add your url to google" web page.

Yahoo has a web page here where you can submit your site.

Microsoft Live search has a submission page here.

I don't know if this is true, but inserting the google analytics code into your web pages help get your site crawled.  You can set it up here.

To verify the site is indexed at google, try a search with:

some keywords site:http://yoursite.com

If you have a brick and morter shop, you can tell google that as well here.  When folks search for your type of service, your site wll apear in the "Local Business Results" section of the returned search.
